Vote on an OCS Energy Bill: U.S. Costal States Benefit Rather than Unstable Foreign Dictators

VOTE on an OCS ENERGY BILL

Who Benefits?
The U.S. and Coastal States, Rather than Unstable Foreign Dictators

A vote for an Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) energy bill is a vote to generate revenue for the Federal Treasury and the states off whose coasts energy exploration would be conducted.  Currently, Americans’ hard-earned money is being sent overseas to unstable, foreign nations who are often hostile to the U.S.

Moreover, a vote for an OCS energy bill is a vote to give states more control over their coastlines, since both H.R. 4761 and S. 3711 would:

• give new and unprecedented control of Florida’s coastline.
• open more than 8 million new acres of the Gulf of Mexico to existing production, an increase of 20%.
• direct funds to the Federal Treasury and to coastal states for projects they deem important to the public interest.

If Congress is serious about energy security, then it must get serious about safely accessing America’s own natural gas supplies. We urge you to complete your work, come to an agreement and send an OCS bill to President Bush this month.  Congress holds the key to ending the current energy crisis in the U.S.

Both H.R. 4761 and S. 3711 break new ground.  We believe the pieces are in place to complete legislation that will bring large new quantities of natural gas to market, benefiting U.S. consumers.  Congress has a historic opportunity to strengthen America’s security and economy.  Time is running out.  We strongly urge you to get the job done.

CONGRESS MUST ACT ON AN OCS ENERGY BILL NOW
