Technology Allows Safe, Efficient Access to American Energy Supplies
A vote for an (OCS) energy bill is a vote in favor of using the latest technology to safely access America’s abundant supplies of energy on the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) to help mitigate the negative impacts of the current U.S. energy crisis. Decades of experience has proven that offshore energy exploration is safe, and advanced technologies make it even safer. But don’t take our word for it, see what others have been saying:
• The U.S. Minerals Management Service (MMS): “The environmental record of the OCS program has been outstanding – there has not been a significant platform spill in the last 35 years.”
• The U.S. Department of Energy: “Today, operators employ a variety of advanced drilling and production technologies to operate safely in sensitive …coastal areas. As a result of these advances, operators are able to locate and produce more offshore resources, with less drilling, fewer dry holes, less waste, and minimal impact.
• The Nature Conservancy of Texas: “several of our preserves are home to ongoing oil and gas operations while at the same time providing excellent habitat for wildlife.”
Energy production rigs often become ‘artificial reefs’ that benefit marine life and fishing industries. According to MMS: “Recycling retired natural gas and oil structures (platforms) as artificial reefs have proven to be an effective tool for fishery management.”
If Congress is serious about pursuing alternative energies, then it must get serious about safely accessing America’s own natural gas supplies. We urge you to send an OCS bill to President Bush this month. Congress can reverse a more than 25-year ‘Just Say No’ energy policy.
