Today, the House Committee on Natural Resources held a Legislative Hearing on H.R. 2337, “The Energy Policy Reform and Revitalization Act of 2007.” John Engler, President of the National Association of Manufacturers, testified at the hearing. The Uncertainties of the MMS Five-Year Plan and the Need for Legislation

The Minerals Management Service (MMS) Five-Year plan proposes to lease only about 2 million acres of the original Lease Sale 181. The Five-Year plan would offer lease sales in five-million acres of 181 South, but only if Congress enacts legislation taking the area out of the Congressional appropriations moratoria and the President takes it out of the Executive Withdrawal.

Arizona Energy Alliance Applauds Senators Kyl and McCain For Supporting the Passage of S. 3711

The Senate voted Aug. 1, 71-25, passing a bill deemed the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act of 2006 that opens 8.3 million acres of deep sea waters to energy exploration, an area containing an estimated 5.8 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, enough to heat or cool six million homes for 15 years. Among those who voted in favor of the bill are Arizona Senators Jon Kyl and John McCain.

For decades government policies have been encouraging the use of natural gas—it is a clean, safe, and efficient fuel. While U.S. policies have been encouraging consumption, they have simultaneously restricted the supply by banning exploration for new domestic sources of natural gas.
