Arizona Energy Alliance Applauds Senators Kyl and McCain For Supporting the Passage of Bill, Allowing for Greater Exploration in the Gulf of Mexico

PHOENIX (August 2, 2006) – The Senate voted Aug. 1, 71-25, passing a bill deemed the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act of 2006 that opens 8.3 million acres of deep sea waters to energy exploration, an area containing an estimated 5.8 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, enough to heat or cool six million homes for 15 years. Among those who voted in favor of the bill are Arizona Senators Jon Kyl and John McCain.

“The passing of S. 3711 helps everyone,” said Farrell Quinlan, vice president of policy development and communications for the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry. “The impact of higher gas and energy prices on Arizona farmers and manufacturers has been profound and this bill puts us one step closer to alleviating some of that pressure.”

“We live in a global economy where many of our international competitors pay a fraction of the price for natural gas that we do. The passing of this legislation is only helping America to remain competitive,” added Quinlan.

The Consumer Alliance for Energy Security is a broad-based coalition of consumers, industrial and institutional energy users committed to alleviating the current U.S. energy crisis by supporting proposals in Congress pushing for greater access to the abundant supply of domestic energy on the Outer Continental Shelf, a submerged region off the coastal areas of Texas, Louisiana and Florida.

Members of the Arizona Consumer Alliance for Energy Security include Arizona Association of Industries, Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Townsend Homes, DeGreen Wealth Management, James Insurance Solutions and China Mist Tea Company.
