CAES URGES IMMEDIATE ACTION ON SENATE LEGISLATION
WASHINGTON, DC (November 8, 2006) – The Consumer Alliance for Energy Security (CAES) today issued the following statement urging immediate action on legislation that would safely access abundant supplies of American energy on the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) during the ‘lame duck’ session:
“Through passage of H.R. 4761 and S. 3711, members of both the House and Senate have already acknowledged that we have a real and significant energy crisis in this country and the solution is to safely access America’s vast and abundant energy resources on the OCS. However, American consumers are still waiting: waiting for energy security, stability, and lower costs.
“This is not a choice between two bills – the House or the Senate – but between getting something done or doing nothing at all. The time has run out on compromise, and we implore the House to immediately pass S. 3711.
“Getting a bill to the President’s desk before the end of the year will increase access to America’s abundant energy supplies and will help lower energy prices for U.S. consumers, farmers, small business, industrial energy users and seniors on fixed incomes and will enhance our energy security. We see this as an important first step towards a more comprehensive approach to accessing OCS resources.
“It is imperative that Congress complete its job on the energy legislation that will serve as the foundation for a true national energy policy.”
