TALLAHASSEE — The Florida Consumer Alliance today recognizes Governor Jeb Bush for his courage and commitment to help solve the nation’s energy crisis by acknowledging the need to safely expand offshore drilling for America’s own energy sources. Doing so will help alleviate the supply-demand imbalance that's at the root of five years of soaring natural gas prices that are crippling many of Florida's households, key industries and costing jobs.
As reported in a Tampa Tribune article today, Governor Bush is strongly supportive of historic compromise legislation that, with adequate protections, allows for expanded access to energy in part of the Gulf and the Atlantic Ocean.
Bush said "If that can happen and there's at least 100 miles of protections - permanent in the sense that the state would make the determination of continuing to have a moratorium there - then I think that would be a win.”
Florida Alliance members support the Governor’s position and urge members of Florida’s Congressional delegation to allow Florida to be not only an enormous energy consumer but an energy provider as well. Floridian jobs and our agriculture, industry, small businesses and consumers are depending on it.
