Escalating energy prices have significant and far-reaching consequences for American consumers and industry alike. Higher energy prices are just the first symptoms of a much larger economic issue that goes well beyond manufacturing.

And the American people recognize it and feel it every day – at their home, their work, churches and schools. The recent poll we conducted shows that more than 94% of Americans say the rising cost of energy is a significant problem, nearly 90% say that rising energy costs are having a significant impact on their family budget. By a strong 3 to 1 margin, Americans favor increasing drilling for natural gas on the Outer Continental Shelf.

Now is the time for action. In order to compete and succeed in the global marketplace, our country needs a plentiful, diverse and affordable energy supply. With our manufacturing base and our communities at risk, it's time reduce costs and expand supplies.
