Concord, NH- A diverse alliance of New Hampshire small business men and women and state political leaders, launched a coalition today urging Congress to address the current U.S. energy crisis.  The New Hampshire Consumer Alliance for Energy Security believes that immediate action on pending proposals to provide greater access to the abundant U.S. supply of energy in the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) is a necessary first step.

The New Hampshire Consumer Alliance for Energy Security was formed in New Hampshire and joined its national counterpart: The Consumer Alliance for Energy Security to bring attention to the negative impact record-high energy prices have had on small business and municipalities around the state.

“Small businesses are what drive our economy here in New Hampshire, and they are being crippled by the high price of energy,” said State Senator Peter Bragdon.  “If small businesses are going to remain competitive, steps must be taken to decrease the price of energy.”

“As we raise awareness of the devastating effects energy prices will have on industry and tourism here in New Hampshire, our goal is to gain support of individuals, political leaders, business owners and organizations here in the state,” said Ryan Hansen, State Representative and member of the House Science, Technology, and Energy Committee.   “This is not an issue that will be going away anytime soon.”

A national opinion survey by The Consumer Alliance for Energy Security confirmed that the American public understands the severity of the U.S. energy crisis.  The survey found that nearly 90% of the respondents believe that rising energy costs have a significant impact on their family’s monthly budget.   The New Hampshire Alliance of Consumer Energy Security is committed to alleviating the current pressures that energy prices have on Granite Staters.
